District 12 - Princeton area
Last updated: 2025-05-12CO Mike Krauel (Mora) spent the week assisting at the DNR K9 Academy. CO Krauel also worked a busy fishing opener. Anglers were finding a good panfish and walleye bite and overall, were very happy with the amount of fish that they were able to catch. CO Krauel and K9 Bolt also spent time at accesses checking boats for aquatic invasive species.
CO Blong Lor (Center City) spent the week working anglers and boaters. CO Lor also worked a few turkey hunters. He reports more activity than previous years for the fishing opener, however there were not much report of success in fishing.
CO Koleby Dingmann (Sauk Rapids) spent the week working the busy fishing opener. Many anglers and boater were out with the warm weather. Success was moderate in the area. Make sure you have all the proper life jackets on board, this was a common violation over the week.
CO Justin Frisch (Cambridge) followed up on an ongoing conservation easement violation during the week, and received a few calls regarding wildlife issues in the area. Over the weekend Frisch was on the water for fishing opener. There were a few issues observed including over limit, illegal length fish, boat registration, and boat equipment issues.
CO Trent Seamans (Big Lake) focused patrols around area lakes and rivers. Additional time was spent following up on various complaints related to the Sand Dunes State Forest. Enforcement action for the week included fishing without a license, fishing with extra lines, operating a watercraft with insufficient personal flotation devices, and operating a watercraft with expired registration. One turkey hunter self-reported accidently shooting two toms with one shot. Hunters should remember one of the basic rules of firearm safety: be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
CO Tshungtsim Thao (Buffalo) worked a busy fishing opener. Most anglers that were checked had little success while a few others either had multiple fish or limited out on fish. Violations encountered on opener weekend included expired boat registration, no PFD, no throwable cushion, expired and/or no fire extinguishers on board and no license in possession. Reminder that a Type IV throwable is required on boats 16 feet or longer.
CO Emmitt Winkels (Milaca) focused on fishing and watercraft violations this weekend of the fishing opener. CO Winkels handled numerous TIP calls. Violations included no license in possession, no PFD, no throwable, expired registration , bass out of season and no angling license.
