Weekly CO report
District 14 - East Metro area
Last updated: 2024-11-18CO Steve Chihak (Hastings) spent the week working deer, small-game, and migratory waterfowl hunting. The end of the firearms A deer season saw improved weather conditions and more hunting opportunities as deer appeared to be on the move. Time was also spent issuing car-killed deer possession permits and responding to miscellaneous wildlife-related complaints.
CO Garrett Thomas (Eagan) spent most of the time checking deer hunters and walleye anglers. The walleye bite remained very good locally, and many anglers have been catching trophy sized fish. Although most anglers out enjoying the hot bite have been following the regulations, multiple unlicensed anglers were caught, cited, and had their fish seized.
CO Matt Paavola (White Bear Lake) patrolled for deer-hunting activity during the firearms deer season and assisted neighboring officers with ongoing investigations. Time was also spent working in Pine County and TIP calls were investigated. Throughout the week, numerous firearms and archery hunters were cited for taking deer with the aid of bait.
CO Scott Arntzen (Forest Lake) continued field training with COC Chad Ziegler. Most hunters checked in the area said they were seeing a fair number of deer. Violations for the week included hunting without a license, taking deer with the aid of bait, lend/borrow a license, insufficient PFDs and possessing toxic shot.
CO Tony Salzer (Ham Lake) patrolled Anoka County for small-game and deer-hunting activity. Salzer assisted with an ongoing big-game investigation involving several violations. Salzer also worked the second weekend of the firearms season. Several violations were observed, and enforcement action was taken.
CO Tou Vang (ELCOP-Hmong) conducted equipment maintenance and issued a deer-possession permit for a car-killed deer. He worked deer hunters in southeast Minnesota over the weekend and investigated a hunter trespass complaint. Enforcement action was taken for shooting deer without a license.
