Weekly CO report

District 17 - Albert Lea area

Last updated: 2024-11-18

CO Nicholas Ambroz (Waseca) focused on firearms deer season enforcement. Angling, small-game hunting, and recreational vehicle activity were also monitored.

CO Tyler Lusignan (Faribault) checked hunters and local lakes. Lusignan issued a deer-possession permit and addressed multiple hunting violations.

CO Meng Moua (Spring Valley) focused on trapping and hunting enforcement. The second weekend of the firearms deer season saw lower hunter participation, but there were still a fair number of hunters trying to harvest a deer. Hunter success continued to be mixed, with some reporting still seeing good deer movement. Time was also spent following up on hunting complaints.

CO Chris Howe (St. Peter) spent most of the week on deer-hunting enforcement. Multiple instances occurred of people shooting deer near property boundary lines, only to have the deer bound off into a neighboring property where the person did not have permission to enter. Hunting farther from the boundary or hunting near the boundary but shooting into the property where you have permission is a good idea. Tip of the week: If you were ?piggybacking? on someone else?s permission to hunt, and that permission was obtained three years ago, and the person who obtained the permission has passed away, it would be best to secure your own permission to hunt, directly from the landowner.

CO Corey Wiebusch (Mankato #2) continued field training with COC Travis Cain. Time was spent checking deer hunters throughout the area. Multiple TIP calls, a trespassing complaint, and a litter complaint were investigated. Enforcement action was taken for multiple big-game violations.

CO Chad Davis (Owatonna) checked anglers, hunters, and ATV operators. Davis patrolled aquatic management areas, wildlife management areas, state parks, waterfowl production areas, and responded to Turn in Poacher (TIP) calls.

CO Jeremy Henke (Albert Lea) continued spending the week checking deer hunters. Many hunters finished the season with unfilled tags, but some nice deer were also harvested. Waterfowl activity is slow in the area, but a few hunters have been out and having minimal success.
