District 18 - Rochester area
Last updated: 2025-05-12CO Brittany Hauser (Red Wing) spent the week patrolling for area angling activity. Multiple trespass complaints were also investigated. Enforcement action was taken for lifejacket and deer feeding violations.
CO Derek Schneider (Zumbrota) reports a great turnout for fishing opener. Anglers enjoyed excellent weather and a hot panfish bite. Some fishing violations found this past week included angling without a license, using extra lines and keeping Northern Pike out of season. Schneider attended an elementary school event and assisted other agencies.
CO Marie Petersen (Wabasha) patrolled Wabasha county for angling, boating, hunting, and ATV activity. She assisted with a firearm safety course for the Wabasha and Kellogg area. Varied success rates were found among hunters and anglers. Enforcement action was taken for multiple violations found.
CO Joel Heyn (Plainview) worked mainly anglers and turkey hunters during the week. Fishing success was mixed with a number of folks out. Turkey hunting pressure and success seemed lower.
CO Annette Schlag (Rochester #1) reports a busy fishing opening weekend. Violations encountered included angling without a license, using an extra line while angling, boat registration issues, and boats missing safety equipment such as a throwable PFD or fire extinguisher. Schlag and K-9 Trapper also continued their training at Camp Ripley.
CO Calli Oberg (Winona) spent time this week checking anglers and turkey hunters. Enforcement action taken for the week included: possessing an illegal length walleye, no license in possession, failure to renew watercraft registration and littering.
CO Mitch Boyum (Rushford) reports working off road vehicles over the week. Reports of ATVs on state lands were investigated and grant and aid ATV/OHM trails were worked. Violations encountered were expired registration, fail to display valid registration and illegal operation. Morel hunters are out in strength but success has been limited.
