District 18 - Rochester area
Last updated: 2024-11-18CO Brittany Hauser (Red Wing) spent the week patrolling for area hunting activity. Many hunters were checked, and success rates were high. Assistance was also given to local agencies for a variety of calls. Enforcement action was taken for various deer-hunting violations.
CO Derek Schneider (Zumbrota) continues to report a good turnout for the firearms deer season. With assistance from hunters, a buck was freed from an electric goat fence. The buck now has some antler decoration. Other calls handled were deer-hunter trespass, sick and injured wildlife, TIP calls, and possession permits. Assistance was provided to other agencies.
CO Joel Heyn (Plainview) worked mainly hunters during the week. Duck-hunting success was slower overall, but some did well and lots of birds are in the area. Deer-hunting pressure was down from the first weekend and various violations were detected.
CO Annette Kyllo (Rochester #1) focused on deer-hunting activity this past week. Kyllo followed up with several TIP complaints and fielded numerous calls regarding deer-hunting licenses in the 600 zone.
CO Ryan Christenson (Rochester #2) checked many firearms deer hunters during the week. Many hunters were found to be successful. Violations encountered included trespassing, failure to register deer, and target shooting.
CO Mitch Boyum (Rushford) reports receiving calls on multiple trespass cases and hunter conflicts with other hunters. A few pheasant hunters were checked as well. They were having good success in areas where the corn has been harvested. Waterfowl hunters along the Mississippi River report hunting success has slowed.
CO Tyler Ramaker (La Crescent) continued training with COC Tshungtsim Thao. Time was spent patrolling the area for deer hunters and answering miscellaneous calls. Calls consisted of registration mistakes, deer-possession tags, and following up on TIP reports. Harvest rates seem to be down from opening weekend. Other violations encountered during the week included a UTV unlawfully operated on a state highway and the lending/borrowing of deer tags.
