District 7 - Grand Rapids area
Last updated: 2024-11-18CO Vinny Brown (Northome) continued checking deer hunters during the second week of the firearms deer season. Several small-game and deer-hunting related questions were answered, and hunters continue to see decent success in the area. Brown patrolled for illegal deer-shining activity and responded to complaints of shots fired at night. Enforcement action was taken for transporting loaded firearms.
CO Jayson Hansen (Bigfork) worked ATV riders, hunters, and anglers. He patrolled campgrounds and trails. Numerous game and fish-related questions were answered. He also responded to wildlife-related complaints.
CO Mike Fairbanks (Deer River) checked hunters, investigated TIP complaints, worked a shining detail, and assisted in capturing a horse that had been missing for two months. Fairbanks and his K9 partner Fennec searched for a lost handgun, searched for evidence in a case involving shooting from the road, and assisted with a search warrant. Enforcement action was taken for hunting over bait, feeding during a feeding ban, and transporting a loaded firearm.
CO Thomas Sutherland (Grand Rapids) continued work during the deer season with multiple cases being worked and wrapped up. Enforcement action was taken for hunting deer over bait, untagged big-game animals, failure to validate deer tags, and loaded firearms in a motor vehicle. He is following up on a case involving a trumpeter swan being illegally shot.
CO Jimmy Van Asch (Pengilly) focused enforcement efforts on big-game, small-game, ATV, and trapping activities. Numerous deer hunters were contacted. They reported little success. Follow up on pending investigations and TIP complaints was conducted as well. Enforcement action was taken for a variety of hunting related violations.
CO Taylor Hochstein (Hill City) continued to patrol the area for deer-hunting activity during the first full week of the firearms deer season. Some deer hunters reported success, but most deer hunters reported seeing more grouse than deer so far this season. Some hunters even switched out their rifle for a shotgun and had more success hunting grouse.
CO Brian Holt (Grand Rapids) focused primarily on deer-hunting activity throughout the previous week. Time was also spent monitoring grouse hunting, ATVs, and following up on complaints in wildlife management areas. Enforcement activity involved transporting loaded firearms and littering of garbage and deer carcasses on public land.
