District 7 - Grand Rapids area

CO Vinny Brown (Northome) checked on trapping activity, monitored ATV activity, and answered wildlife related calls. Fishing opener was busy with good numbers of people out fishing. Success rates seemed to be better than usual overall. Enforcement action was taken for fishing without a license, possession of slot walleye, minor consumption of alcohol, and safety related violations.

CO Jayson Hansen (Bigfork) Worked ATV, small game, and fishing activities. He patrolled area trails. Numerous game and fish questions were answered. He also responded to wildlife-related complaints.

CO Mike Fairbanks (Deer River) checked anglers, worked boat and water, monitored OHV activity and investigated wild land fires this week. CO Fairbanks and his K9 partner fennec also provided a K9 demonstration at the governor's fishing opener event and attended training with area K9 teams. Enforcement action was taken for angle without license, no throwable device, expired registration on water craft, minor consumption of alcohol and possession of illegal length fish.

CO Thomas Sutherland (Grand Rapids) worked a busy and warm fishing opener with more boats on the area lakes then ever remembered. CO Sutherland took enforcement action for not having enough life-jackets on a watercraft, not having a throwable device on a 16 foot or longer watercraft, not having an angling license in possession, for possessing a protected slot walleye and for operating an unregistered ATV.

CO Jimmy Van Asch (Pengilly) worked sport fishing, boating, ATV, and AIS enforcement activities. Numerous anglers were contacted over the busy opening fishing weekend. Enforcement action was taken for several angling, boating, and license violations.

CO Taylor Hochstein (Hill City) focused on boating and fishing activity over the busy fishing opener. Success rates were good, and there were a lot of people out enjoying the nice weather. Several people were able to catch walleyes in deeper water and then slid into shallower water and had success catching panfish.

CO Brian Holt (Grand Rapids) focused on boating safety and angling activity throughout the previous week. Time was also spent on TIP complaints, monitoring AIS compliance, trapping, and recreational vehicles. One TIP complaint involved littering. It is illegal to dump garbage of any sort at public accesses. This includes animals and animal parts, lawnmowers, alcohol containers, household garbage, etc. Holt worked a busy fishing opener in the Grand Rapids area in addition to a detail on the Rainy River. Enforcement activity involved boating safety and angling violations.
