District 9 - Brainerd area
Last updated: 2025-05-12CO Luke Belgard (Pine River) worked academy training at Camp Ripley this week. Belgard also worked the governor's fishing opener in Crosslake.
CO Jim Guida (Brainerd #2) worked sport fishing and all-terrain vehicle enforcement this week. Numerous angler checks were conducted over the opener with angler success varying. A few angler groups checked were indicating that too many large walleyes were being caught. Officer Guida addressed watercraft, personal floatation, and license violations.
CO Tony Flerlage (Crosby) had a fine fishing opener, checking many anglers and boaters. ATV use has increased, with trails quite dry. Beaver and otter trapping seasons have come to a close ending a long spring season after the early ice out. Please use caution when burning anything due to the dry conditions. Burning restrictions are in effect for area counties.
CO Andrew Dirks (CCSRA) Spent time checking anglers for the busy fishing opener weekend. Many anglers had success catching limits of trout on the mine lakes. Anglers are reminded to check their registration, and safety equipment before heading out on the water.
CO Chelsey Best (Pequot Lakes) assisted with activities this week surrounding the governor's fishing opener. Enforcement action was taken for fishing without a license, registration issues and lack of floatation devices. Numerous nuisance bear calls were also handled.
CO Matthew Brodin (Brainerd #1) worked the Gull Lake Chain for the fishing opener. CO Brodin reports multiple different species being caught. Garbage dumped at a WMA access point was investigated.
