For projects whose main purpose is helping an adversely impacted community respond to environmental degradation and related health concerns.
What this activity area supports
This activity area focuses on helping adversely impacted communities respond to environmental degradation and related health concerns.
A useful way to think about the project is: Community → environmental degradation or condition → related effect or health concern → proposed response.
Your project may fit this activity area if...
Your project is responding to environmental degradation affecting a community, and the proposed work is intended to help that community address the degradation or related health concerns.
Important distinctions
- Being located in or benefiting an adversely impacted community does not by itself determine the project's activity area.
- If the main purpose is restoring habitat or improving another natural resource, Preserve or Enhance Natural Resources may better describe the project.
- If the main purpose is education, Education and Awareness may be the better starting point.
Examples of projects that may fit
- A community project responding to a local environmental condition or degradation and its effects.
- A community-led response using existing information and community knowledge to address an environmental concern.
- A project connecting an identified environmental condition with practical actions intended to reduce or address its effects on the community.
What DNR would need to understand at Stage 1
- The community the project is intended to serve
- The environmental condition, degradation, or related concern
- How that condition affects or concerns the community
- What the project proposes to do
- How the proposed response relates to the environmental condition and community
What may be worked out later
Additional technical methods, implementation arrangements, partnerships, permissions, monitoring and other project-specific details may be developed later as required by the funding opportunity.
