News release: Minnesota DNR webinars focus on winter animal tracks, ice fishing live from the lake

January 2, 2024

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites people interested in wildlife and outdoor skills to check out the winter program schedule for the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series.

In a webinar on Wednesday, Jan. 3, staff from Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center will discuss the tracks that animals leave behind in the snow, interpreting the tracks and how doing so can improve a person’s outdoor skills.

In a webinar on Wednesday, Jan. 10, DNR staff will present live from a lake ahead of Take a Kid Ice Fishing Weekend that is Jan. 13-15, and discuss what’s new in the sport and how simple it can be to get out and have some fun ice fishing. From using a simple hand auger and a bucket or a fancy ice-house and electric auger, hear about what you may need, and a few things you might want.

The Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series webinars are free and offered year-round, though registration is required. Visit the Outdoor Skills and Stewardship webpage of the Minnesota DNR website for the registration portal, more information about upcoming webinars and recordings of past webinars.
