Time to buy new hunting, fishing licenses

Now is the time of year for anglers and hunters to buy new fishing and hunting licenses. Minnesota fishing, hunting and trapping licenses for 2023 expire Thursday, Feb. 29. Licenses for 2024 are now available wherever fishing and hunting licenses are sold, online and by telephone at 888-665-4236. Online buyers can print the license or choose to receive a text or email that when displayed on a mobile device serves as proof of a valid fish or game license to state conservation officers.

All 2024 fishing licenses become effective Friday, March 1. New licenses are required to participate in 2024 hunting and fishing seasons that continue past Feb. 29.

Minnesota DNR webinars focus on edible mushrooms,
Critical Habitat License Plates

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites people interested in wildlife and outdoor skills to check out the winter program schedule for the Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series.

In a webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 21, Tim Clemens, Minnesota Mycological Society member and former society president, will discuss edible mushrooms that grow in Minnesota and how foraging for mushrooms, after learning how to do so safely, can be a fun and healthy way to find delicious wild food and connect with the outdoors.

In a webinar on Wednesday, Feb. 28, Lori Naumann, DNR Nongame Wildlife Program information officer, will discuss Critical Habitat License Plates, created in 1995 to provide an opportunity for Minnesotans to contribute a nominal amount to conservation of the state’s natural resources and show their commitment and individuality with a special vehicle license plate. Naumann will discuss how people can get one of these plates for their vehicle and how the funding enhances Minnesota’s natural resources.

The Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series webinars are free and offered year-round, though registration is required. Visit the Outdoor Skills and Stewardship webpage of the Minnesota DNR website for the registration portal, more information about upcoming webinars and recordings of past webinars.
