Timber harvest done on DNR-managed lands are sold through an annual, competitive bid process. Each year by early December DNR Forestry establishes a calendar of public auction sales at which state-owned timber will be sold during the next 12 to 15 months. Check the timber sales calendar regularly; additional sales may be added to the calendar and some sales may be canceled or rescheduled at any time.
Notices become available approximately 30 days before the date of each sale, and list each tract offered, its location, the quantity and price of timber offered, and any significant permit conditions and regulations.
Once a notice of sale has been posted, no additional tracts can be added to that sale. However, tracts may be deleted from a sale and some sale terms and conditions may be changed at any time up to and including the day of sale. Persons interested in a particular tract should check with the office(s) listed on the Notice of Sale for details of any changes.
Results of timber auction sales showing which tracts were sold, their bid (selling) price and who purchased them are usually posted within 1–2 days following the auction date, except for sealed bid auctions. Sealed bid auction results cannot be posted until all advance payments are received for the sold tracts. Auction results will remain available for viewing for 90 days following the date of sale.
