Don't get lost - navigate with your phone! 

GeoPDFs® use GPS location tracking so you can stay found, even off the grid. Download a GeoPDF reader app and free GeoPDF maps onto your phone at home, and you'll be able to navigate in the woods without needing Internet or cell service. 

Note: The Avenza Maps app will be discontinuing their Map Store and begin charging for use of their app. We can no longer update any of the MN DNR maps that were available through this app, and MN DNR is no longer working with Avenza.

Before you hit the trail (while you still have signal):

1. Download an app

Your smartphone does not have a GeoPDF viewer on it by default. You will need to download a GeoPDF reader from the App Store or Google Play. 

Many people like the free GeoPDF reader from Colorado Parks & Wildlife, which also works with Minnesota's maps. (Scroll to their "CPW Mobile PDF" section.)

2. Get maps

Open the DNR GeoPDF downloader site on your mobile device to get our free maps, and then open your downloaded map in your GeoPDF reader. 

GeoPDF maps are available for:

  • Hunter walking trails

  • Off-highway vehicle trails

  • Snowmobile trails

  • Twin Cities area public water accesses (boat landings)

  • State forests

  • State parks and recreation areas

  • State trails

  • State water trails

 

Need help?

Please contact the DNR Information Center if you find a problem with a MN DNR map. We are not able to provide support for your GeoPDF reader. Contact that app's developer for questions regarding its use.
