Each major watershed in Minnesota has unique attributes that influence health conditions. Watershed reports summarize and deliver key findings important for understanding health conditions and for reviewing health scores.
The reports are designed for use with the interactive map. It is important to view scores with other data and across spatial scales to fully explore health patterns.

Watershed applications
WHAF: Lakes
The interactive ‘WHAF for Lakes’ application uses lake health scores to compare and contrast lakes found within a spatial boundary selected by the user. Lake details are available that summarize lake health metrics and basic lake morphology information.
WHAF: Land Cover
The interactive ‘WHAF Land Cover’ application provides charts and tables of land cover types for different watershed or county boundaries. It also summarizes cropping history from 1920’s to present, as well as permitted water use.
Watershed context reports
An overview of ecological and human systems is depicted in each of the 81 major watersheds in Minnesota.
Each report highlights physical characteristics of the area. These include landscape alterations, population trends and infrastructure, and other conditions that influence watershed health and affect sensitivity to risks. The Watershed Context Report Appendix contains a collection of links that load the data from each context report page in the WHAF 2.0 interactive map.
Watershed health report cards
Scores compare the health of ecological systems across Minnesota and deliver a summary of health scores for each of the 81 major watersheds in the state.
Climate summary for watersheds
Major watersheds
Historic climate trends are depicted in maps and charts that highlight the difference between current climate trends and the historic climate record.
Statewide
Statewide climate history and trends provide a context for understanding the Major Watershed Summaries. Animated maps demonstrate changes in climate parameters over time.
