Hunters can request a kit online or, in most cases, pick one up at a local wildlife office. Kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Both the kit and the testing are free, and results are posted online.
Starting in September of each year, we'll mail kits requested online. Mailings will continue throughout deer season until supplies run out. Kits should arrive within seven days of your request.
Each kit requires hunters to remove a lymph node sample from a harvested deer. Watch the instructional video below to learn how.

- Tyvek envelope
- Pair of large nitrile gloves
- Sample collection and submission instructions
- Datasheet and instructions to submit data online
- Pre-labeled sample bag
- Resealable bag
- Tweezers
- Freezable cold pack
- Silver padded mailer
Important notice:
All mail-in kits will require a new shipping label before being able to send kits to the DNR.
New kits do not have return shipping labels included: you will need to request a shipping label below after you harvest a deer to return the kit to the DNR.
Some previously distributed kits have shipping labels pre-attached to the return envelope: the shipping labels in these kits no longer work. Please request a new label below to ensure the DNR receives your sample.
