Chronic wasting disease has been found in wild deer in these areas. Multiple management actions designed to help mitigate disease spread are in place, including carcass movement restrictions, a deer feeding ban and increased hunting opportunities with liberalized bag limits.
Deer permit areas included
- 601, 604, 605, 642, 643, 644, 645, 646, 647, 648, 649, 655, 661, 666, 671, 679, 684 and NEW—685.
Requirements
- Testing is voluntary.
- No carcass movement restrictions.
- Carcass disposal rules are in place.
- DNR will not provide dumpsters for carcass disposal.
- Deer feeding and attractant bans may be in place. Deer permit areas (DPAs) do not necessarily follow county lines. A DPA may only partially overlap with a county that has a deer feeding and attractant ban in place.
Special regulations
- Hunters may use a statewide firearm license.
- Disease management permits may be used in management zones. Permits are $2.50 each and can be used to harvest antlerless deer. Where applicable, these permits may be used instead of bonus permits to take antlerless deer in this area.
- Antler point restrictions (APR) are canceled.
- Cross-tagging for antlered bucks is allowed.
How to get your deer sampled
Vountary CWD sampling options include:
- Taxidermists and other partners participating in the partner sampling program.
- Mail-in kits (while supplies last) or unused kits from previous years.
- Making an appointment at a local DNR wildlife management area office within the CWD management zone in which you harvested your deer.
